I had orginally intended to post about something serious, thought-provoking, and profound.
But instead I will share with you a couple things that made me laugh out loud today...
(FYI, the new Cinnamon Dolche Latte from Starbucks is amazing! You will love this!)
Back to the funnies...
One thing I teach my children, and something I stress constantly, is that nothing is impossible for God. One practical way that I try to implement and infiltrate this truth into their life is by ridding the thought process that starts with "I can't." So, in Miss Liddell's class, "Can't" is the C-word. We don't say it. If I hear it we all stop and go through the Philippians 4:13 talk, or worse repeat offenders get to write the verse out (numerous times) for homework!
So, my students all refer to "can't" as the C-word. They hold each other accountable, and quite honestly I have seen a difference in the way the talk to each other and themselves.
A fellow teacher came to me this morning as said, "Ashlee, I know how hard you work with the children on their choices when it comes to their words. I simply have to tell you a funny story about a bad word."
The story goes like this....
Her class was at PE, and when they returned a student told her two other students had been using bad words in PE. The teacher inquired as to what had been said and the little girl said they had been saying the "E" word.
As hard as this teacher tried, she could not think of a single thing that would be a possibility for being the "E" word.
The teacher told the student she did not know this word. The little girl reluctantly agreed to tell her teacher what the "E' word is....
She said,"They were calling each other 'e'diots."
I love kids!
Second story; First Grade.
This week we have been learning the story about Jesus being tempted by Satan in the desert. After we learn a story, often times I allow the children to act it out for the class. We take turns playing the different roles, and thus the story becomes more and more ingrained in the hearts and minds of the children.
Because this story only has two characters, I split Satan's part up in to a different person for each temptation.
And, all havoc broke loose.
Everyone wanted to be Devil #3. Not Jesus, devil #3.
Why?
Because he tried to get Jesus to jump off the top of the temple, which meant you got to stand on a chair to do your part.
Once we picked our first cast of characters, I had one little boy almost in tears because he didn't get to be devil #3. (no, I am not making this up...) I assured him that if he made good choices during the stories he might get another chance to be devil #3.
As our story was underway, I notice this same little boy talking and distracting his neighbors. I was shocked! I thought he really wanted to be devil #3. So, I did what any frustrated teacher would do...
I whispered in his ear, in my I-mean-this-so-seriously-you-should-be-scared-voice, "If you even think you can act like this and still get to be devil #3, you are going to be very sad when you don't get a chance to be devil #3."
Yes.
The Bible teacher threatened a child with the idea of NOT getting to be devil #3. I still can't believe those words came out of my mouth....as effective as they were, not the best choice of my teaching career!
Oh how it still makes me laugh...
(BTW, you should have seen the devil #3's jumping off the tables...such enthusiasm and excitement!)

Of course! Everyone wants to be a Blue Devil at heart! Except I want to be Blue Devil # 4 (JJ Redick's number)
Go Duke!
Of all the comments I could have imagined, somehow my tiny brain forgot to think about the Blue Devils....
You crack me up! I would have loved to have a student like you Josh....you are one of a kind!
I was more shocked that you didn't get nasty grams from the parents for letting their children jump off of tables, and what in the world is a butnewf? That was the secret word I had to say to post this. I think we should have fun defining the random letter patterns that blogspot makes us repeat...
