Theology 101, or maybe this is a 300 level course...

Today in one of my first grade classes a little boy asked me why God made Satan.

Whoa.

Before I could respond another student (a certain star baseball player from the Hinojosa clan) quickly answered that God did not make Satan because Satan was first an angel.

Double whoa.

(How do these kids know, remember, and understand such confusing theological truths?)

For a split second the child was satisfied with the answer that Satan was created as an angel. But then he started to put together that answer with what he knew about God.

"Miss Liddell, if God knows everything then why would He create that angel if He knew He was going to be so bad?"

And I still find myself wondering why God entrusted these children to me, how I could possibly be trusted with shaping their understanding of who God is....and blown away that my job allows me to see the faith of children from its first fruits through to its growing and sprouting and impacting the world around us....amazing.

In a birthday note; one needs only to look at the front page of the Houston Chronicle sports section to know what my birthday surprise for today was (other than being on the Hinojosa family calendar!)...and for those of you who live other places I will fill you in. My favorite hottie Astros player, Luke Scott, was on the front page with his killer smile...and just a little star bonus, they added a picture of Vince Young too!

Birthday countdown is on....
