A Question for you...

So, I have been thinking about something recently - as in the past ten minutes or so - and wanted to get your feedback.

When was the last time you got a handwritten piece of mail? You know, a card telling you how wonderful you are, or a thank you, or just a thinking about you kind of brighten your day piece of mail?

I really don't like checking my mail anymore. Credit card applications, bills, junk mail, catalogs galore, more junk mail, advertisements, etc. Sometimes I hold out hope for a personal piece of mail, but they are so rare, so very rare.

I think that is something that has been lost via the rise of technology.

What do you think?

Do you still get fun mail?

My friend Cindy and I send eachother cards sometimes, with crazy amounts of stickers and ink colors.

My sister and I were just discussing this on MySpace though-- that we communicate through email and text messages and stuff, so we never get to see people's handwriting any more, and handwriting can give you a definite impression about a person. In a way it's like a part of our identity is being disguised by technology.

Okay - you know the kids at church write things and give them to me and I just love that. But, as far as a handwritten note - very, very rare. I think that is why I really enjoy (but don't do it nearly enough) to send little post cards and notes to the children and volunteers.

Think of people throughout history and how we discover things about them...journal, notes, diaries....it is so cool to see their handwriting. In 200 years when people do some kind of excavation on our society, I wonder if they will have the right technical media to pull up all our blogs, e-mails and my space comments. What will they discover about the fonts and colors that I like to use?

Terri, you are so welcome! I wish I did fun mail more often to the people I love and care about.... I am with Susan that I try to send out handwritten things, but just don't do it enough.

Lisa, weird you were talking about this with Cindy.... hmmm.... massive amounts of stickers, huh?
