!2 days of Christmas...

One of the many unexpected blessings in my life has come from a tradition that started quite accidentally.

December of 1999 I was driving home from college by myself for the first time. It was the first year I had a car at college, and I was not sure that I would make it all 12 hours to Houston by myself. So, I decided to stop in Arlington (home of Ma and Bob, my grandparents) for a traveling break.

I realized I didn't really have to hurry home, so I asked if I could stay an extra night. Ma always asks us what we want to do while we are visiting and I said I would love to learn how to make her legendary coffee cakes. And thus, a tradition was born.

These Christmas trips became so special to me, because I was learning some of the behind the scenes stuff that happened to make our Christmas traditions come to life. And, it was a time to treasure up stories from two people whom I love deeply.

Outside of the luxurious life of a college student, carving out time during the month of December to continue this tradition can be difficult but every year my trip becomes even more priceless to me.

So, bloggy friends, what is one of your most meaningful or memorable Christmas traditions?

we are actually in the process of starting some of our own new traditions. my grandparents go to AZ now before Christmas and my other grandma doesn't really know what's going on anymore...so, it's like a clean slate! we go to the Christmas Eve service at church and we still make sloppy joe's on christmas eve for dinner (like we have forever on the stagner side of the family) and even though i don't even like or eat them, it's a fun tradition, you know? we'll have to see what else becomes tradition as jaret and kavin get older.
