Okay, so I am not seriously saying that I believe God has a favorite sports team, but I am certain of one thing. If He did have a favorite baseball team, it would be the Astros. How am I certain? Because He told me....
Right, not in so many words, but more because of the things I have seen God in during this baseball season. So here are my top five, you can argue them all you want but you won't change my mind...
5) Luke Scott had his chance in the big leagues and spoke openly about how his trials drew him closer to God. How he realized that doing what God wanted him to do was more important than making it in the big leagues.
4) Want me to list all the Biblical refrences to perserverance? This 15-30 team has given more sermon illustrations on this topic than any other team in all of baseball history.....
3) Want to talk salaries? This is a group of players that, for the most part, don't make decisions based solely on which team will pay them the most. Andy Pettitte signed for over 8 million dollars less than he was offered by the Yankees. Why? He prayed about it and felt like God was calling him to Houston.
2) Ensberg, Berkman, Everett, Pettitte, Scott....Roaring Lambs.
1) God blessed me with a physical example of who He takes great delight in me, my joy, my enjoyment of things like baseball. For someone who loves to give, and personally takes great delight in giving to others, I guess you would say my love language is gifts. And isn't it funny how God shows us His love in our own love language? Someone gave me a ticket to the World Series. Yes, you read that correctly. I will be sitting in attendance, at the first ever World Series game played in the state of Texas. I will be there to see, in the flesh, the first pitch of the first home game, for the Astros first ever trip to the World Series.
So, not that I think that God loves anyone else less, but I think He shows us His love through things like this. And, about God's favorite team...watch and see, because this will be a World Series that people talk about for years to come.....

Oh, Jordanne...the Astros are still God's favorite team...this I know for sure!!!! And what faith does it show to write those things AFTER the world series?!?!?! Our boys are so wonderful...they really are amazing! Love you too...
In 2003, I came very very close to working for the Houston Astros. I was in the top 3 out of 50 applicants.
At the time, I hadn't finished my college degree, and the job went to a much more exprienced, ex Compaq emplyee with a family and in his 40's.
On my 3rd interview, I had to speak with Drayton McLane's VP. I was so freaked out when during the interview, he actually called and I got to speak with him. While I was waiting for my interview, Berkman actually walked in to sign some balls for a charity. I almost soiled te suit I was wearing.
A lot has happened since then...I finished my degree, got a wonderful job.
But most of all I learned something very very important:
Dont personify yourself based on what job you have. It was a long fall and it humbled me to the core. I thank God that he did it...
Okay, so you are one of the coolest people I don't really know! Isn't it amazing how God weaves our paths and slowly but surely even our hearts desires change as we continue to seek Him through the journey? I always am amazed when I reflect back over a period of time to see what God is/has done in my life.
But, you are still an Astros fan, right??? Do you go to many games? Do you have a favorite player?
Are you kidding!!! I am a HUGE Astros fan. I was exhausted all throughout the playoffs....
Favorite player? Hmmmm That would have to be Berkman or Biggio or possibly Oswalt....Lidge slides in there too.
I love the new guys comming up...Berk, Lane, Lamb, Luke Scott....even Backe
I think this team (and hopefully next year) has the ability to go even farther next year. If only we could get a little better hitting.s
Yeah, the new guys coming up make our Stros even more exciting, don't they? I am totally with you about being exhausted during the playoffs...I think I am still feeling the remnants of October baseball! But what a magical season!
Glad to see you included Luke Scott in your list of new guys...I really hope they give him a real shot this spring. I think he could provide part of a solution to our hitting problem...and he is one of my favorites!
Have you followed the Astros long, or are you a new convert?
Oh, I've been a big fan since I was a kid. I remember being in the Astrodome yelling "Cruuuuuuuz!" when Jose came up to bat.
I'm not a fanatic, but I really love the game and you hit it right on with the character of this team....they went through so much and still did so well.
I used to work downtown and I'd walk from my building to OJ park to watch a game on Monday's for $2 bucks....man, those were the days!
