My Daddy...

Tomorrow is the Rose Bowl.
The National Championship.
The granddaddy of all college bowl games.
Hook 'em Horns.
Okay, now that I have that out of my system, (like that is really possible!!!) on with my real reason for posting.
As I have been taking every opportunity to celebrate the Longhorns mere arrival at the Rose Bowl, the past couple of days I have been thinking about why I love college football so much. Now, the obvious is answer is because of my Daddy.
But, there are lots of things that my Daddy loves that I am not as taken with. The fact that my Daddy loves college football, Longhorn football, almost as much as he loves life is not the only reason, or even the main reason, I too, love college football.
As a little girl I always wanted to be close to my Daddy. I was his princess. I made his eyes light up (kids can tell this, they REALLY can). I was his gift from God. And because I knew these things, I wanted to be worthy of his love. I wanted him to know how much I needed and valued his love. I wanted to make him proud. I wanted to live up to what he saw in me.
One thing my Daddy loved was for me to spend time with him. That is where my initial love for football came from. I wanted to be with my Daddy, and he loved to watch football. But the funniest thing happened, the more football I watched with my Daddy, the more I heard his stories and explanations, the more I saw his passion and love for the sport, the more my heart began to change.
His passion became mine.
Isn't that the same way God works?
He just wants us to spend time with him, not because of what we get, or because we like what we are going to do with Him, but because we want to be near Him. And the more time we spend with Him, the more we will learn about the things He loves, His passion, His heart. And as our love grows for Him, our heart will become more and more like His.
So tomorrow, if you happen to watch the National Championship, think about my Daddy (we will be cheering our hearts out in all of our burnt orange gear!!!) and be reminded of God's love for you.
Oh, and don't forget.... HOOK 'EM HORNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not a UT fan per se but one of my good friends is, so I'll echo that hook 'em horns. :)

That was a really good post today. I just can hardly comprehend it -- God, the Creator of the universe, just wants to spend time with me??? Wow. Double wow.

Jennifer,

Double wow indeed... Because I know me, and sometimes I don't even want to spend time with me! I am so blessed to have had an earthly example of a Father that draws me so much closer to Him....

Thanks for the Hook em...it worked!
