and not just about the obvious things parents tend to be right about.
For several years they encouraged me to persue a career in sports journalism....and judging from my last post I must be somewhat knowledgable....
The Astros began (hopefully they dont really think this one move will solve their situation) working to gain some serious ground for the second half of this season. We aquired Huff from the Devil Rays, who is a solid (and consistent, sorry Mo) third baseman, a lefty, and could possibly play outfield. He has a respectable, not great, batting average (over .280) and he isn't too pricey.
With this aquisition, something even more significant happened.....we sent Jason Lane to the minors (read the last post...McLane must read my blog!) and sent the message to every player on the team that we are serious about making it to October.
Drayton has one of the highest payrolls in the majors, which is saying quite a bit for the well known tightwad.... however, he has more work to do if we are really going to make it to October.
Now Josh, don't go labeling me a fair weather fan.... I am, and will be, an Astros fan for just as long as you cheer for those Rangers. I will give you the call you made before the season began. So far, we have proven your words to be true. SO FAR....
You see, I smell a second half that no one in the majors could predict. I believe the Astros are FAR greater than even they believe they are. I predict Andy's ERA will be in the 2s for the month of July and August, same for Roy and Roger. Brandon is going to be one fireball, and Taylor is going to stay healthy and keep improving.
If something is done about Brad Lidge our pitching is going to be just fine, even great.
If Mike Lamb and Chris Burke can stay hot, with Berkman and Wilson along with new aquistions we will be able to take charge.
Moves I would still make: Aquire a closer or make one out of our current options. Bring up Luke Scott from the minors. Seek the possibility of one more bat...if reasonably priced. Find a way to get Willy more playing time, even if it means Biggio gets a little less.
Let's see what happens.....regardless of the way this season ends...I am still an Astros fan. One that might always get tears in her eyes when see sees replays of Chris Burke's walk-off homer to get us to the penant race....or when Roger took the mound as a relief pitcher....or when he took the mound less than 24 hours after his mother passes away....or scenes from the clubhouse after we beat the Cardinals for our first ever World Series appearance.

lol...we'll see Ash. I'll stick to my prediction that the Astros, IF THEY EVEN MAKE THE PLAYOFFS, won't get past the first round....
Side note: I don't recall ever calling you a "fair-weather" fan. You are a very big fan, through and through and the furthest thing from fair-weather. I merely said to be supportive (which you have been) in the sense that a WHOLE half season still to come. More a "be positive" thing than a "fair-weather" thing. The 'Stros definitely have a legit team and just need to pull it together (yes, even Lane). I just think that it won't happen. I truly think the Rangers (despite their cliche ability to blow it in the second half) will go further this year....I bet some PIZZA DIP on it!!!
Does that mean if they don't go further that you'll make the pizza dip?
Yes, that means I'll ATTEMPT to make it...Not sure you'll want to eat it though....
Thanks for the clarification Josh... and the bet is on.
Just to keep you updated Andy's ERA for July is 1.80, which is just another one of my little predictions coming true.....WS here we come!
Lisa, thanks for watching out for me on the pizza dip bet....
Just to keep you updated:
The Astros are 7 games back of the Wild card. Same place they were last year at this point...No need having "Th Rocking Chair", uh I mean "The Rocket" or Andy if you guys can't hit.....
The Rangers are 1 game behind the Oakland A's in leading their division...
Just thought I'd let you know!!
Josh, if the rangers win their division, i will make you pizza dip.
And, if they go further in the playoffs than the Astros then I will gladly cheer them on (as you did the stros last season) and maybe make you pizza dip....
I agree Laura, no one can underestimate the Rocket.
