Unexpected Surprises...12 Days of Christmas

I had an unexpected surprise tonight.

A great friend of mine, whom I haven't seen in ages, called me on the phone. He was minutes away from my house, and wondered if he could stop by with his family.

It was so wonderful to get to meet his daughter, and catch up with he and his wife.

And it got me thinking about what I would have missed if I hadn't answered my phone (which I was tempted to do). It might not have been something I was planning on doing, or even something I thought I had time for that evening, but it ended up being such a wonderful blessing in my day.

Which made me think about how many unexpected surprises there are in the Christmas story. Mary being visited by an angel of the Lord, shepherds greeted by a heavenly host of angels, and the great unexpected surprise of them all; Mary giving birth to our Savior.

No one had those things planned for that day, and in fact had many other things they were to be tending to, but at the end of the day their unexpected surprise ended up being the most important event of their day- and life.

So, today, in the midst of all your holiday business, don't forget to say yes to unexpected surprises and visitors that might come your way!
