Really, one day I am going to write a book.
It is going to be full of the hilarious things kids say, and the lessons those hilarious moments teach us about who God is.
Okay, or maybe it will just be full of hilarious stories....
At any rate, today my second graders were acting out the story of Saul and Ananias. (Where God calls Ananias to go and pray for Saul, who has been responsible for the deaths of many believers, and after he prays his sight is restored. Quickly following Saul's Damascus road experience....)
My kids love to act out the stories we learn, and I love to watch them put what they have learned into their own words and actions. When I see what has been captured in their hearts, it always amazes me, and often times is the source of great laughter and joy.
So, back to the story today.
As soon as Ananias finished praying for Saul, his sight was restored.
Saul, played by Adrian, jumped up and said, "I can see! I can see!" (there is much jumping around and arms flinging around wildly)
"Ananias, can you appetize me?"
"Yes!" Ananias replied, and quickly dunked Saul into the imaginary river, and pulled him up for air.
As I am trying desperately not to die laughing, the class cheers for the actors and they all return to their seat. I am absolutely the only one who heard anything out of the ordinary when Saul asked Ananias to "appetize" him.
So, I asked Adrian, as a point of clarity, what he did after he could see.
"I asked Ananias to appetize me," he proudly answered.
Oh my! How could I have missed explaining such an important part of the story? He didn't seem to mind much changing the word to "BAPTIZE" and when I explained what baptize meant, he seemed to already know. As in, that is the same thing appetize means!
I love my kids!
