Donald Miller....

...happens to be one of my favorite authors and thinkers.
How is it that I have read his works, discussed them at great lengths, read and listened to multiple interviews with him, and NEVER seen his face before tonight?
This man, is on my list.
I wonder what the Love calculator would say about this match?
Do you have a favorite Donald Miller quote?

I don't really have a favorite quote, but I love how he has nicknames for his friends...'the cussing pastor', 'my communist friend', etc. Too funny.

is he adorable or what? i want to pinch his cheeks..... ok, ok... i mean the ones on his FACE! :-)

one of my favorites is from searching for God knows what, when he's talking about how he thinks an alien would see humans and the world....sorry for the length... but here it is:

"humans, as a species, are constantly, and in every way, comparing themselves to one another, which, given the brief nature of their existence, seems an oddity, and for that matter, a waste. nevertheless, this is the driving influence behind every human's social development, their emotional health and sense of joy, and, sadly, their greatest tragedies. it is as though something that helped them function and live well has gone missing, and they are pining for that missing thing in all sorts of odd methods, none of which are working. the greater tragedy is that very few people understand they have the disease. this seems strange as well because it is obvious. to be sure, it is killing them, and yet sustaining their social and economic systems. they are an entirely beautiful people with a terrible problem."

...'Andrew the Protester'...'Tony the Beat Poet'...I love it! While subbing yesterday I found my favorite DM quote:

"I talk about love, forgiveness, social justice; I rage against American materialism in the name of altruism, but have I controlled my own heart? The overwhelming majority of time I spend thinking about myself, pleasing myself, reassuring myself, and when I am done there is nothing to spare for the needy. Six billion people live in this world, and I can only muster thoughts for one. Me."

Ouch.

Ashlee, don't give up on March--- will I see a new post today?

Donald Miller's books are so interesting! If you marry him, he can lead Bible study each week. It'll be like Blue Like Jazz....LIVE on Friday night! Can you imagine what kind of stuff he'd think up for the Bible study to do?

And thanks for the clarification Darla of where/what you were wanting to pinch!!!!

okay - I know it has been a month since your post....but it just takes me a while to think. And here it is....my favorite Donald Miller quote, from Blue Like Jazz, on "romance"

"Tony the Beat Poet says I am finichy, that the longest I have been in love is eight minutes. That really isn't tru. I just get crushes very quickly, like lightning or something, and they they go away. Mostly they go away because I am afriad to do anything about them. I am afraid of rejection, and I am afraid that I won't feel the same way tomorrow, and I have no faith in the system that God made."

Gotta love his honesty. Oh that I would be so bold to call it like it is.
