Those of you who know me best, know that I don't really like change. It seems I have made a little progress in accepting and dealing with change, but it still isn't something I seek.
I love tradition. I love being able to "feel at home" or "feel comfortable" and change usually doesn't allow that to be evident immediately.
While we were gone to our vacation in Corpus Christi, my kind and patient friends drove home through Rockport for me to re-live some very fond childhood memories. Most of my elementary through high school years of life my grandmother lived in Rockport, Texas. It is a small coastal town, and it is the backdrop for so many of my childhood memories.
It was important to me to go and see the two houses were so many of these memories happened. As I was driving around, I was kind of surprised at how emotional this trek became for me.
I realized how many monumental events had taken place in those homes.
Nassau Street house
-I learned how to sew and cook in the house on Nassau street.
-I learned how to fish, crab, and find sea shells with holes in them in the same home.
-It was a gathering place of family I never saw anywhere else.
-I remembering falling in love with sea food here, and learning about all things sea food (how to devien shrimp, buying fish from boats just pulling in to the bay, etc.).
Cherry Hills house
-The only memories I have of my grandmother living with someone who loved her took place in this house (Cherry Hills).
-She was so happy, so loved, and so cherished by this man.
-In this house I made my first, and most beautiful, chocolate meringue pie.
-The kitchen in this home was truly the center, and heart, of the home. Some of the most amazing homemade bread came from this kitchen.
While the emotions came as a surprise to me, I realized they were good. Visiting these old stomping grounds reminded me of the things I loved most about these places and years in my life.
So, what is the backdrop for your childhood memories? Where would you like to re-visit from your childhood?

I think its so cool that you revisited those childhood houses. I would love to visit any place from my childhood to solve some mysteries about those times. I have been fortunate to be able visit a few houses that we used to live in here in Texas and in Minnesota, but I didn't find any big clues laying around.
